Bio

I am currently Associate Professor in Political science, researcher at the Cevipol, co-Editor of the Journal of European Integration and Member of the Steering Committee of the ECPR Standing group on the European Union.

I completed my PhD at ULB in 2013. It focused on the strategies of Eurosceptic MEPs in the European Parliament and won the 2015 Xavier Mabille Prize for the best thesis in political science from the ABSP. I then became a postdoctoral fellow at St Antony's College at the University of Oxford and after that, an FNRS postdoctoral fellow at ULB. My postdoctoral research focused on the links between politicians and citizens in Europe. Over the last 10 years, I was a visiting professor at the University of Lausanne, UCL, Sciences Po Bordeaux and Panthéon-Assas University.

I was appointed Assistant Professor in 2017 and Associate Professor in 2021. I teach European studies and comparative politics. I am currently the Principal Investigator of a research project on the conspiratorial discourses of politicians in Europe (Post-truth politics and political parties project, funded by the FNRS) as well as an ARC project on fact-based policies (with J-B. Pilet). I am also involved in a research project on the perception of public opinion by politicians (Polevpop, led by the University of Antwerp) and a project on the contestation of liberal democracy (Red-Spinel, led by Ramona Coman, IEE).

Research

Firstly, I am interested in euroscepticism and radical parties in Europe. My research focuses on Eurosceptic Members of the European Parliament and their opposition to the EU, but also on the formation of Eurosceptic and extremist groups, networks and parties at the supranational level.

Secondly, I am the Principal Investigator of a research project funded by the FNRS focusing on the role of political parties in “post-truth politics”. In this context, I'm interested in disinformation, conspiracy theories and the role of political parties, in particular by analyzing their activities on Twitter and Facebook.

Thirdly, I'm interested in political representation, in particular the linkage between citizens and representatives, and visions of representation. I'm involved in the Polevpop project, which examines the congruence between elected representatives and public opinion and is based on interviews with MPs in 13 countries.

Lastly, I'm currently involved in the RED-Spinel project coordinated by the IEE on the contestation of the rule of law and liberal democracy in Europe. I am in particular involved in developing the theoretical framework and the concept of dissensus and examining the discourse of the far-right on liberal democracy.
