Weronika’s PhD dissertation project explores the topic of citizens’ assemblies organized in multilingual societies of Central and Eastern Europe. The aim of her research is to determine whether they fulfill the principles of deliberative democracy in terms of representativeness, inclusiveness and quality group deliberation in the processes. The study explores the ways in which organizers strive to include the existing linguistic minorities into the assembly process and what are the effects of the implemented solutions on participants’ experiences, intergroup relations and the perceived effectiveness of deliberation and recommendation formulation.
As a member of Democratic Innovations Research Team Weronika works on the following research projects:
‘Deliberative Innovations in Central and Eastern Europe – A Panacea for Democracy in Crisis?’ – The project aims to explore the role of mini-publics in Central and Eastern Europe and to explore whether they can make democracies more resilient and citizens more engaged. ‘Integrating Public Deliberation for Impact: Learning from the European Wave of Citizens’ Assemblies’ – The project aims to conduct the first Europe-wide systematic comparative analysis of integrative design features and policy, polity and political impacts of climate citizens’ assemblies, analyzing the relationship between them. The project’s objective is to showcase how specific integrative designs produce or fail to produce specific impacts.
