The debate on social movements and politics in Central and Eastern Europe has as its starting point the collective volume Power and Protest in Central and Eastern Europe (Palgrave, 2025), co-edited by Claudiu Crăciun and Henry Rammelt. The volume includes 11 country-cases that explore the relevance of protest events, social movements, and civil society in shaping the regional democratic transition and consolidation, electoral politics and institutions, socio-economic policies, and geopolitical orientations. The debate will highlight three countries - Hungary, Albania, and Romania - but it will also propose cross-country comparisons and general considerations on the whole region.
