Bio
Giulia Sandri serves as Scientific Advisor at the EU Liaison Office of the Université libre de Bruxelles and as Research Fellow at the Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz. From 2012 to 2024, she was an Associate Professor in Political Science at the Catholic University of Lille, France, where she directed the ESPOL-LAB Research Centre for European and International Politics and the Master in Digital Politics and Governance. Sandri is a Co-Convenor of the PSA’s Technology, Internet, and Policy Specialist Group (TIP), Science Communication Coordinator and Management Committee Member in the COST Action CA23114 - Digital technologies improving civic engagement and democracy and plays an active role (WP leader and researcher) in the Horizon Europe project “ACTEU,” which aims to foster European citizens' trust amid crises and polarization (2023-2026). Additionally, she co-chairs the Digital Parties Network.
Previously, Sandri held a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at Christ Church College and the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Oxford. She earned her PhD from the Université libre de Bruxelles. Her research interests encompass AI policy, digital politics, comparative politics, and political behavior. Sandri’s recent publications appear in journals such as Information, Communication & Society, Minds and Machines and Journal of Elections, Public Opinion and Parties. Giulia Sandri’s research portfolio encompasses multiple high-impact projects focused on AI, democracy, and digital governance. She participates in the European Commission’s “Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Democracy” project with the Joint Research Centre (JRC). In the COST Action "RELINK²- Regaining linkage? Digital technologies improving civic engagement, political organisations and democracy " project (2024-2028), she coordinates science communication efforts to enhance civic engagement through digital tools. In NATO’s FREETAD (“France & Estonia – Together Against Disinformation”) project, she co-leads research on best practices for countering disinformation. For the Horizon Europe “ACTEU- Towards a new era of representative democracy – Activating European citizens’ trust in times of crises and polarization” project, she explores citizen trust during crises as researcher and Work Package Leader. Additionally, her work includes projects on smart cities, social media and electoral behavior, and democratic transitions, further underscoring her expertise in comparative politics and digital democracy.
