Bio

I am currently a post-doctoral researcher at the Social Medial Lab, a project studying on how Belgian political parties communicated on social media.

Before that, I completed my doctoral thesis at the ULB, which explored the relationship between economic and political inequalities. Specifically, it examined why political representatives have biased perceptions of public opinion, often skewed in favour of higher-income voters. This research, funded by the FNRS, drew upon data from the POLPOP project.

My research interests extent to EU politics, particularly in areas such as voting behaviour, coalition formation, and the influence of radical right actors in the European Parliament (EP). This interest has resulted in several publications based on roll-call votes from the EP, as well as teaching engagements on EU politics at the University of Rennes 1 in France.

I am also the founder of Datan, a website monitoring the voting activity of French parliamentarians. This platform aims to make policy decisions more understandable to citizens and to offer political data to researchers, journalists, and civil society organisations.

Research

My research interest go in three directions.

First, during my doctoral studies, I focused on the impacts of economic inequalities on political representation. My research explored how and why elected representatives have biased perceptions of public opinion, favouring higher-income voters. I also examined how this lack of representation affects citizens’ political attitudes and trust.

Second, I have worked on various projects analysing legislative activities in the European Parliament (EP). Using roll-call vote data, I researched the impact of coalition agreements on legislative activity and the voting influence of radical right groups.

Finally, as a post-doctoral research at the Social Medial Lab, I will conduct research on the communication of Belgian political parties on social media. This research will address issues like polarisation, negativity, the influence of electoral cycles on communication strategies, and their impact on voters.
