BIO

Emilia Salminen is a Ph.D candidate in Political Science and a teaching assistant at Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB). She is affilitated with CEVIPOL and IEE. In her research, she focuses on EU legitimisation and LGBTIQ+ rights. She graduated in 2022 with a Master’s Degree in Social Sciences. For her Master’s thesis, she conducted qualitative research on LGBTIQ rights contestation in the European Union. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in European Studies from Maastricht University.

  • February 2023 – October 2023: European Parliament’s Intergroup on LGBTI Rights - Intern
     
  • The LGBTI Intergroup is the largest of the European Parliament’s 27 Intergroups. The five priorities are freedom of movement of LGBTIQ people, monitoring European Commission, combatting discrimination in the EU, securing transgender and intersex rights and monitoring human rights in the work of the EU.
     
  • May 2022 – January 2023: Young Educators Pink Talks Co-Host – Volunteer
     
  • Young Educators is a NGO that seeks to empower young people, promote human rights, equality, social inclusion, and active citizenship.
  • May 2022 – June 2022: Una Europa – Una.Together DEI Project Volunteer
     
  • Una Europa is an alliance of 11 leading European research universities. Una.Together is an international and interdisciplinary online project to create solutions to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) across European research universities.

  • The Waterhouse Gallery is an interdisciplinary social art festival initiated by Viva con Agua Nederland. Theme of 2018: Panta Rhei, Everything Flows.
