Jana SCHWENK

Post-doctoral researcher

Bio

Jana Schwenk is a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Gothenburg. Her research explores the consequences and processes of intraparty democracy, with a focus on candidate and leader selection.
In her dissertation, “Beyond the Party’s Realm – The Consequences of Variation in Candidate Selection”, defended in December 2023, she explores questions such as how candidate selection affects corruption perceptions and voters’ attitudes towards candidates, as well as gendered effects of candidate selection. Part of her dissertation work has been published in Electoral Studies, West European Politics, and Party Politics.

Her current projects focus on party members’ preferences in party leaders, voters’ perceptions and ideals of intraparty democracy, and how intraparty democracy affects voters’ willingness to donate to parties.
