BIO

Iacopo is a visiting PhD student in Political Studies from the University of Milan - Network for the Advancement of Social and Political Studies. His research aims to assess the effectiveness of the European Union as a Militant Democracy Agent in both promoting and defending democracy in post-socialist countries and member states. He graduated from the University of Bologna and has studied at UC Santa Barbara and the University of Wrocław (PL). He conducted research at Roskilde and Warsaw University as part of the research project “Populism and Democratic Defense in Europe” and interned at the Permanent Representation of Italy to the European Union. He worked as a Teaching Assistant at Vassar College (Poughkeepsie, NY) and is currently collaborating as a researcher at the Western Europe desk for the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project.

Democratic Backsliding in the EU; Liberalism and Democracy; EU Enlargement Eastwards; Neoliberalism; Rule of Law Defense.
